Husqvarna 136
« on: April 25, 2014, 02:10:07 am »
I've recently stumbled onto a 136 Air Injection. Looks a bit more like a true Husky than my 235 but I don't know. I appreciate anything you all can tell me about this saw. Thank you. Brett

If my memory serves me right. The 136 was poulan built 36cc.  Aaron knows these saws well, I dont.

The 235 has the poulan heart like the poulan pro 3516

The 36-141 Husky series was indeed built by Poulan.  The engine is basically the same as a Poulan 2500 or Poulan Pro 255, aside from a smaller bore (a 141 has the same bore as a 2500 or PP255) and some external differences on the cylinder (impulse tube and intake flange are a bit different).

The chassis of the two saw familes (Poulan 2500-3050/PP255-315 and Husqvarna 36-141) are quite different.  They both have a plastic central case (with an integrated oil tank) that the whole engine assembly sits in, but the rest is different.  The Poulan saws have the fuel tank also integrated into that case (with the handlebar and rear handle assemblies mounted with springs), while the Husky branded saws have a separate fuel tank/rear handle/handlebar assembly that extends under the case and is mounted with rubber AV mounts similar to the setup used on 61-272XP series and other 1/2 series Husqvarnas.

In the Huskys, there was only the 36cc and 41cc versions.  In the Poulans, there were 41cc, 46cc, and 49cc versions.  On the Huskys, they have the same 'impulse gromet' and 'intake tube' setup as a 50-55 Husky.  The Poulans have an integrated intake boot/impulse tube assembly.

Both have a white plastic partition that the carb attaches to (but it's a different part #, with different provisions for the two intake/impulse setups ).

The Huskys use a pushrod throttle link (like many other Husky saws) while the Poulans use a throttle cable.  They share ignition parts, and some models share carburetors.

There is also a Jonsered saw series that shares engines with these Husky and Poulan branded saws.  2036 and 2041 are the J-red models.  Interestingly, they use the same engines (with the same cylinders) as the Husky saws, but the chassis layout is like the Poulan/Poulan/Pro saws (with spring AV mounting and the fuel tank in the case).

The Jonsereds use the same  intake/impulse setups (with the same part numbers for the grommet, tube, and partition) as the Huskys.  They look like the Poulan saws aside from colors and a few other cosmetic details (such as the starter cover design.

There were also a few Partner models in this 'extended family'.  From what I've gathered they were the first saws built in this family, followed by the Jonsereds, Poulans, and Huskys.  They are laid out like the Jonsereds aside from colors and other minor cosmetic details.

There was an earlier saw series (that included the Husky 40/45/49 plus some Jonsered and Pioneer models) that is similar in concept to this later saw family, but with no shared parts.

Aaron, does that series include the 142 Husky too? I have one that I'm pretty sure is Poulan made also. Just curious as you didn't mention it.  Thanks.

Yes the 137 and 142 are also in the family.  I forget to mention them because I haven't messed with 'em yet.  They have a few minor differences.  Starter cover is different..........and IIRC they have that 'spring assist' starter pulley with the second spring inside.  I think at least some of those two have cat mufflers as well.

Thanks. Mine doesn't have the extra spring on the starter, just normal recoil. I don't believe it has a cat muffler either. Never did a mm on it so I can't be positive, but I've had it off before and don't recall there being anything in there. Not a bad little saw I might add. Nothing special but it serves it's purpose just fine.

They're good saws for what they are.  I'm not crazy about the 50-55 style intake tube/impulse grommet setup on them.  Other than that, no complaints.  You'd know if it has a cat.  The cat mufflers weigh about 47 pounds (a slight exaggeration).  Also, I believe the cat muffler saws have a green gas cap.

one thing I REALLY don't like about the intake is the carb doesn't fully cover and seal the impulse port.

you're relying on the gasket being wedged up against that area from only one side.
I use sealant. and a big gasket.
when I grow up, i wanna be an adult.

Yep that's yet another aspect of the intake setup that I don't like.  I have a couple ideas for fixing that issue.
