Husqvarna 141
« on: October 13, 2013, 09:35:41 am »
I have a Husqvarna 141 chainsaw that lost a the gas vent and bronze plug.  I order a replacement duckbill vent and bronze plug that came in yesterday.  When I inserted the duckbill vent it fit fine, but the bronze plug does not fit securely into the opening above the duckbill vent.  Am I suppose to glue it in or am I missing something?

I attached two picture of where they go and what they look like.

I use two different ways to secure these
1) 3M 5200 sealant available at Home Depot
2) Fuel proof Teflon tape available at auto parts stores.

Method 1 two small drops on the outside diameter of the plug
Method 2 wrap the Teflon tape around the outside diameter of the bronze plug to form an interference fit to the plug in the hole in the tank handle unit.

This problem ocurrs  quite often on older saws.

Thanks!  Which have you found to be more successful\durable?

I like your signature - apparently we have tyranny at the moment.

Mr. Jefferson also said "A government powerful enough to provide everything you need........can also take everything you have"! Brilliant fellow, wrote the Declaration of Independence at age 33 in one draft! And yes, we have tyranny today!

The 3M 5200 works best but don't go overboard with it, it is a witch to remove once it cures. Just 2-3 tiny dots will do. It takes 24 hours to cure completely, so don't fuel the saw immediately.

I wonder if that would work for my j red 2152 tank vent as well.  New vent still no luck with it leaking fuel down my leg. Ended up replacing the tank.  Also my climbing saw so leaking fuel is no good.

Just throwing this out there.  I think I used this last time. Not a 2 part type stuff.

3M 5200 is a marine sealer/adhesive and is very nearly permanent. I would not use it to seal something that may need to be removed during routine maintenance. That is why I advised only tiny dots on your bronze. The fuel proof Teflon tale works equally as well and can be removed easily. Just make sure it is fuel (gasoline) proof!

This looks to be a very good alternative! Give it a try and report back.

Thanks for the reply guys.  I will try the marine sealant, sounds like the best choice.  It will be helpful to have my limb saw back.  My Stihl MS 290 is not all that big but after while it can wear on you.
