Husqvarna 142 chain oil leak ?
« on: August 25, 2013, 10:44:23 am »
Hi guys, I have a Husqvarna 142 which runs and cuts a treat , but has a niggling oil leak from the chain oil pump area. Its a 2006 model .I have removed the pump and adjoining parts and cleaned out hoping maybe some dirt was the culprit, but no luck.. The leak only occurs during use. :(
Any suggestions would be most wecome.

Thanks for your prompt reply 'cut4fun' , but does'nt really help for my oil leak...the pump parts i have examined don't appear to have any damage or wear.

Typical leakage areas are where the oil tank pickup tube exits the oil tank, where this hose connects to the oil pump, where the tube from from the pump to the bar connects, and the little o-ring on the pump adjuster.

On most pumps the rotating part of the pump is machined at a angle on the end towards the adjuster. This causes the pump shaft to move back and forth when it is rotated. Where this angled end of the oil pump rubs, wears out. The repair kits for the pumps replaces this wear point.

New rubber parts or the hoses helps with oil leaks too.

Many thanks 'Magnum660'. much appreciated. Because of the amount oil i'm losing and its not obvious where the leak is. Maybe i need to replace all the necessary parts, ..if i do this one part at a time i'll know which is the culprit for next time. Thanks again for your attention.

I just went into a saw and replaced all the rubber and plastic parts concerning the oil pump. It didn't completely stop the oil mess for some of it is from the chain and it had become slung all under the chain cover. When you set the saw down from running, it still makes a mess where you set it but doesn't keep on dripping oil for weeks until the oil tank is empty.

Magnum660 ( love the name..)
Thanks for hanging on in there. :)..Just to give you some idea the amount of oil i'm losing..fill the oil tank right up.. Cutting logs for around 1hour, noticed the bar getting hot...no oil in the tank!!.When i finish from cutting a log, set the saw down there's oil drippingfrom the underside.. Yet when i fill the tank back up and put away ..no leaks ???

In this situation, I would remove the bar and run the saw and see if oil is coming from the slot where the bat mount is. If you have oil, I would start looking at the bar.

On the bar you need to clean all wood debris from the slot all around the bar. Then make sure the oil holes on each side of the bar a clear of dirt and wood chips.

Run the saw with oil in the tank and the bar installed. You are looking for oil to spray off the end of the chain when you rev the saw.
