Husqvarna 235 coil problem
« on: June 10, 2020, 06:54:38 am »
I recently acquired a Husqvarna 235 which had a defective coil. I ordered one on Amazon which was represented to be a match for the stock ignition coil part # 530-039143. When the engine is cycled in the correct rotation as determined by the action of the recoil there is no spark. Oddly if the engine is cycled in the opposite direction there is spark at the plug.
Just wondering if anyone had an explanation for this?
I have returned the coil for a refund.
Might have to break down and pay the $$ for a genuine Husqvarna part but I was hoping for a cheap fix as I know the saw has been sitting for a number of years and there could be other problems.
.......Rob

OEM coil here shows $16. That is a orange poulan.  But other places I shop show OEM coils $45. So not sure why the one in link is cheaper like that. https://www.pantanopowerequipment.com/parts/ignition-coils/husqvarna-craftsman-oem-chainsaw-ignition-module-coil-545199901-530039143.html

might have a used coil here.  If you want me to check for ya.

That one coil sure fits a lot of saws

Technically it is a magnet passing by a coil from a close distance.   The magnet is polarized and so would cause current flow in one direction and if reversed would cause current flow in a opposite direction.    If there is a diode in the circuit that would prevent the reverse direction from happening and would only allow spark in one direction.    With out a schematic of the coil it is hard to say what is stopping the current in one direction but allowing in the other and there is a lot more in these solid state ignitions than just a coil of wire.
PP 505, 475, 445.

Guessing you tried aftermarket right?

OEM pulled from a running saw that scored.

If needed.
