The poulan pro 3516 I had seemed like a brother saw to the 235. Just 3516 didnt have AV. So might look at that series too.

That's the one.  Same engine.  Different chassis.  Get a new carb.  They seldom cooperate with a rebuild.

Really bad saws that dealers refused to sell, and they soon were discontiued (at least over here).

The 235e likely was the worst of them all.....

I wonder if one could put the top end and intake tract off the Poulan 3316 on it? However that would not cure the throttle linkage problem.

too much work. too much fiddling for little gain. best to throw a new carb on it instead of too many hours. then get rid of it.
