Husqvarna 246 Chainsaw Idle Problem
« on: April 05, 2012, 11:23:21 pm »
Hi there

I've got a Husqvarna 246 Chainsaw and it turns off as soon as I leave the throttle trigger.

I doesn't stay on when idle and is very irritating. Have to keep starting it off.

Please advise how can i adjust idle speed?

In a situation like this I would first increase the idle speed screw. Then I would try to adjust the low speed mixture screw for best idle. And then try to lower the idle speed. You need to make an evaluation of the high speed mixture also. There may actually be more problems?

There are three possibilities here:

First and most important is that you may have a vacuum leak in your engine that is causing an overall lean fuel mixture running problem that is more pronounced at low speed. This is often the seals on the crankshaft bearings but can be in the connection between the cylinder and the carburetor. This will require a pressure vacuum test of you engine by a competent chainsaw mechanic.

You have a impulse line from the engine to the carb that is kinked or broken.

The low speed part of your carb is plugged with trash or corrosion.
We should share what we know... someone may learn...
That knowledge can live after us... and that "Pays It Forward".
Be all that you can be . . .

+1 on adj. carb, next rebuild carb.  If that doesn't do it press/vac test for leaking crank seals.  246 doesn't have an impulse hose has a port in the block between cyl and carb.  Gasket could be bad.  Carb bolts could be loose causing vac leak.  Posting an IPL it maybe of some help to you.  My file is too large won't let me post it. Good luck 246 is an awesome little saw have two of em.  Father of the 346XP.

Sorry but I messed up the Model.

Its a Husqy 236 and not a 246

Please assist me in sorting out this problem as I still face this with my Husqy 236

Thanks in advance

I assume the possible causes will be close the same, but I don't think many members have much experience with that model (236)....

The model doesn't really matter.  Your symptoms are the same for any saw adj. idle speed screw turn clockwise until it will idle without chain turning.  Post results we will help.
