Husqvarna 254xp Poulan pro 325
« on: December 09, 2017, 09:37:44 am »
Saving pics I have lost on ole HD in past and just found. 254xp I owned in 2008 and traded off up to NS
I tested this saw against my Poulan pro 325.
What I took out of owning it and comparing.
What a saw 254xp 45mm 34mm. Runs like the Poulan 325 46mm 32mm, but feels more balanced and nimble in my hands. 2 PP325 I have owned.

Nice, now all you need is a 15,500 rpm 10 lb 242XP to team up with it. ;D

Yeah I forgot you're in hardwood country, not a area that had alot of 40cc saws with 14" bars cutting spruce pulpwood.
Up here in parts of Canada the little 242XP had a good run from about 1987 to when it was replaced by the 346XP in 1999.

The Finlanders and some of the  Frenchmen from northern Quebec showed us prairie farm kids how to produce with these 16,000 rpm 10 lb lasers on a 14"-16" b/c while working in small limby spruce.
The guys in the Maritimes like Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Newfoundland have stories too.

Here's some pics of my modern day tree limbing laser.
In my tree service I cut quite a bit of spruce so I outfitted my 550XP with a 14" Windsor Speed Tip bar with a Stihl 3/8" chisel 33 Topic Super chain.
Perfect for bench 6 point limbing and blocking smaller spruce at knee height.
Have since sold the 550 with a 30 year old 16" Mini Pro bar and now my MS261 CM has taken over the reins with the 14".

I'm a transplant from Cape Breton, and I brought home dad's last three new production saws last summer. He retired from the bush about 1999, last new saw was bought in 1997.
You can guess what they are...
First three in the lineup, 242xpg, 246xpg, and his "big hardwood saw" a 254xp, all with 15's.

Welcome to the forum 82f100
I clicked like for you post but my fat finger hit dislike. Luckily I straightened it out Haha.
Nice lined up your Dad left you. A year ago I took my family on vacation all through Cape Breton and down into Nova Scotia.
You guys have alot of conifer there, and beautiful big  maple up on the northern part of Cape Breton.
Saw a few TJ's and a few other skidders working the bush up there.

82f100, I see you're in Dryden. Is there much logging going on there still?
What mills are still open there?
