I bought the saw this way off CL in Seattle.

Looks like a 266 port.

I like that Jack.

Seen a 088 done the same way at a GTG.

Also going to try something new when I do this one. Mufflers tend to rust from heat and condensation. The muffler is not really a problem but the socket head looong metric allen screws that Husqvarna uses tend to accumulate rust in the socket heads. Sometimes to the point that the internal heads will no longer provide enough purchase for the tools to reliably remove the bolts.

I have some new Husky bolts for the 261/262 mufflers that I measured and found that McMaster/Carr carries the same size screw in stainless steel. Not cheap but cheap enough when compared to messing about trying to get stripped head bolts out.

I routinely use a little never-seize on the threads to keep away corrosion.

Sometimes, stainless is softer than the old steel bolts. Stainless is very tough but often softer than the socket screws. Never seize will be your friend.

Agree, MickeyMaster has the SS screws which they say meet the same ISO standard a the Husqvarna black oxide coated screws. However if I cannot confirm that I will be using factory screws.

There is a service bulletin regarding that front bracket in Post #1. The 261 came out with a very restricted muffler and this bracket with that small additional port was an attempt to address it. Kid of lame really. The other pic with the 266 or 288 deflector is a way better solution.

Thanks, I think the bracket is off a 266 since it is flat, but it could be the reverse bracket used on the 288.

I have also seen them with one of the ears turned down, I think it would be the right side when viewed from the front of the deflector.

The one pictured is the way I plan to go.

I use those different brackets on a lot of saws. Gives the muff mods a little more of a factory look. The smaller deflector from the 55 and 254 mufflers fits in a lot of applications where the 266 or 268 piece would be too large. This pic might come out sideways, but you can see the different options and I've included the part numbers.

Try again.........

Nice illustration Spike - and I believe I have seen that picture before?  ;)

I believe the 288 one is the one most commonly used for muffler mods?
