My experience with old saws is there could have been a lot of things changed as long as they fit.

I have a 371 and not that it matters but there is a 372 cylinder on it and it says 372 on the starter. The clutch cover is a 371 with the inboard chain adjuster and the serial plate says it was originally a 371. Runs as good as a new one.

I have a 1991 Stihl 025. The only thing 1991 about it is the cylinder and crankshaft. Most everything else is mostly MS250 era stuff. Runs as good as a new one too.
