Feed back on the 3120 and 2100 with v-stacks

2 locals I take care of.  The local running vstack on his 3120 took his off. To many drawbacks he said.
2 guys were cutting in brush and briars.  2100 and 3120 vstacks on both.
The 3120 kept getting hung up on the brush and briars on the filter and the 2100 had its ripped off by it.
Then another day cutting in rain. Even though filters oiled they both got rain inside the carb areas.    So back to oem air filter set ups.

Issue  - throttle gets stuck wont got to idle.

Reason = frayed strand in throttle cable.

Here's a very entertaining video for anyone with a saw shop doing saw repair. I could watch the whole thing over and over again.
The living legend Bob "Walkersized" Walker at his home in Nanaimo, British Columbia Canada.
At about the 2:00 minute mark Bob gets into explaining about a 3120XP hotsaw he's wrenching on. At about the 8:30 minute mark he shows a 3120 full circle stroked crank he built.

New cable installed.

Local came by with his Jason Egan ported work saw 3120 for me to tune after pulling the v-stack back off.
Ran great with it but no good when working around briars and brush. So back to foam oem set up. 2100 had the VS filter ripped off and 3120 kept getting hung up. So now 1 less thing to worry about.

Told him we going to turn it up someday and hit these pine cants I got here. Going to throw my 20" 3120 build off race chain I made on it and let him take it for a ride.
Pine can make a wild thing look fast with a decent chain IMHO. But what I have right now.

Testing in some dry ash with 20" 404.

Way it was.

Tune I did for the 60" must have been  good to go.  Went fat to hopefully clear up in the long bucking cuts.
H side carb.  Jason Egan woods ported.

He said the tree was 57" across, didnt measure dbh.

Then some logs set aside I guess.

3120,the worst pig ever made
« Reply #77 on: September 02, 2019, 12:53:23 am »
I was working for Husky when this saw came out,it was so problem plagued I couldn't even keep one running for a week. I finally got the unfortunate owners to buy an 084 which worked tirelessly and faultlessly. The 3120 had a bum primer, throttle cable mounts, carb, just a nightmare of trouble to any dealer and user.It wouldn't start, run, the mounts all destructed in a week, just a total barely running pig which was falling apppart, the mounts were quickly breaking appart and damaging the crankcase. As a dealer I could not brginto fix althese faults, whata nightmare, won't start, run. It had major faults as a sw.Just a big stummbly pig, carb cant run.Had so many factory fixes the wer horribly. It as so problem plauged yjst it wasn't usefull a a dug mule job.

I know a couple guys have them and love it.
Can't believe if it was such a Pig as you say they would hve even released it for sale.
Good way to loose customers is to sell them a lemon then not stand behind it.

I've never owned a 3120 but have been around them since they came out in the late 1980's and always heard good about them.
Usually "junk saws" are run by "junk operators ".
I've seen 084-880's with burnt clutch/oil pump innards and melted plastics from their inboard clutches while milling.
But never saw a 3120 with its outboard clutch do that....
