I owned and ran a stock 3120 with unlimited coil turning about 12.1K out of wood and ran a 9T with 3/8 chain. Thats as far as I would go with one stock and I was just running 20" and  would be about equal to 404 8T for rim size I think.

32" I ran 8T 3/8 buried ripping and wouldnt want a 9T on there then. JMO

My 3120 only has a baby small 24 inch bar. You would think that it should easily pull a 9T or 10T ???
Good advice Kevin you have been there and done it.

Depends what species of wood you're cutting down under Fabian. 9T-10T in 3/8[.375"] is possible in softwoods with a unmodified 3120-24", but not in that tooth count in the larger .404
If you don't plan on getting into speed cutting competitions,if only work then keep the .404 setup [rim, sprocket bar nose & chain] The most durable and longer sharpening chain size out there for todays hand held saws.

I have a stock 084 with a 7 tooth rim and 30" '404' RSC B&C.  It seems as natural as anything. Is perfect.

I am cutting Australian hardwood - red gum, yellow box, mountain ash. I can tell you that dry yellow box has to be about the toughest wood to cut.

When you crunch the numbers, going from a 7T to an 8T is only increases the chain speed by 11.5%
The 3120 should handle that increase like a walk in the park, with .404 chain and a only a 24 inch bar.

Going to a 9T gives much better numbers:   28.5% increase in chain speed over a 7T - a significant improvement.

I'll try an Oregon 8T and see how it goes using a .404 chain.

What is the website and the price for a good 9T sprocket, bearing in mind that i'm in Australia, so would need to include shipping cost.

I'm with Kevin , 9T is enough . I know my 3120 won't gain anything with a 10T even for cutting small softwood .

Holy heck, those sprocket sizes go up to 22T

By the numbers, (and on a 3120) a 22T sprocket will have chain speed that's 314% faster than a 7T - yeah baby that's my kind of chain speed - now i just need 314% more horsepower to drive it   ;D

Just buy a Oregon 8T-.404 rim sprocket, it's approximately the same size as a 9T-3/8"[.375] Then you have a good strong quality rim and you can still use your .404 b/c..
