Husqvarna 346 350 357 359 353 update info
« on: April 22, 2011, 06:57:57 am »
Lot of people still dont know about this. So here it is again.

Here is the Husqvarna Service Bulletin  info.

I never seen a Service Bulletin  on carb Walbro HDA, I just know it was replaced with a Zama C3-EL42 and cost here is $40-$50 for carb. The original 357-359 Walbro 199 was the worst of the bunch with issues.

Service Bulletin for 357XP, 359, 353, 346XP
This service bulletin is not new. I thought that there might be some out there who were not aware of it so here it is. If your saw has a black plastic clamp around the intake right next to the cylinder it is applicable to it. If the clamp is of steel construction then you should be ok.

SB, 357 XP, 359, 353, 346 XP,
Partition wall and clamp for intake system,
2006-03

The existing intake system on 357XP, 359,353 and 346XP currently consists of an integrated plastic clamp in the partition wall. As the clamp is made of plastic, there is a risk of deformation. This results in impaired clamping force against the cylinder, which in turn can result in leakage in the intake system. To prevent this from occurring, we have now introduced a metal clamp and a new partition wall.

The new partition wall is made up of polyamide with 30 % fibre glass.
The new clamp is a hardened steel clamp. The new material and the design of the clamp reduce the risk of deformation and the subsequent risk of leakage.

Full replaceability prevails.
Introduced from serial number:
357XP 061100201
359 061100001
353 061100001
346XP 061100001

New part no. Description Excl. part. no. Remark

537 43 88-01 Clamp, intake New spare part

Spare part, partition wall, part number 537 25 13-01, has been discontinued and is replaced by part number 537 25 13-02.

These are service bullitens, not "recalls", and it's not a good idea to use that word. It implies that an attempt was made by Husky to contact customers to bring in their saws for these updates. No such attempt was made. It also implies that customers can come in and receive these updates with no indication of a problem, and/or well after the warranty period. Such is not the case.

In both cases product improvements were introduced beginning with the  serial numbers mentioned in the service bulletins. Failures in either case were easily covered under warranty. But this was a "fix as fail" situation.

Still plenty of saws out there with the plastic clamp and early 357/359 carb that are running fine.

Fixed the wording,  Spike  ;), Service Bulletin not Recall.

My dealer took care of me on one of my saws and like you said some of mine still have plastic clamps. I only replace them as needed.

I read somewhere Jred has a fix for these series saws.  Cut off the tabs off the partition and clamp, with I think a 272 HD AF clamp 503-5600-03.  I've looked everywhere and I can't find that post here and other forums.

I may have  357 with the questionable carb. It has a really flakey idle - get things tuned right one day, use it a few days later and it's racing, or idling so low it dies. Had a dealer look at it for me - of course it was running fine then.

Does anyone have more info on this? Years or Serial Numbers affected (mine is a 2005 model) - or where to look to find the carb identification info.

My 353 still have the plastic clamp - no issues so far.  :)

It's all in first post.

Look on the side of your carb for letters and numbers.  Make should be on a cover.

Thanks, Kevin. I saw all the stuff on the clamp and partition - I had that replaced on mine a year or so ago.

I was hoping to find out the carb info without disassembling my saw. I can't see any identifying marks on the carb by just removing the top cover and air filter (just a flat plate that says "patented, other patents pending" but no numbers or brand name).

It's been idling fine the last couple of times out. I'll just have to make time one of these days to tear into it further.

On top of carb do you see Walbro?  Remove air filter to see.   I am thinking back right side top you should see HDA 199 ? if I am wrong on that look front left top area.
