Thanks, SawTroll & Kevin.

Since I'm a 2005, this could be my problem.

Up to now, all I've done maintenance wise is the simple stuff... tuning, deburring & truing up a bar, replace starter recoil system. Is replacing this carb a relatively easy job? Anything I need to watch out for, or other things I should do while I have it off? Maybe replace the fuel line (or at least get a good look at it? Do I need any other parts (like gaskets)?

I'm also wondering if the idle problems can damage the saw - or is running too lean at idle not a big deal (I know in piston aircraft engines, it's not - damage due to mixture setting only a higher power concern, but then they aren't two cycle engines). It seems to run fine at WOT.

I had a problem on a 2159 carburettor Walbro HDA 198 (EU version) after about ten minutes saw the release of the accelerator is switched off but worked regularly at full throttle.
recatomi at a repairer has made me see well 5 carburetors with the same problem with its solution ZAMA flange
so I tried to zoom in slightly on the throttle lasola gas jets at the minimum.
all goes well until the minimum is more full and has never turned off

What number do you think? my solution is correct?

HDA 198 and 190 was the non-EPA versions of the 199 and 191.

190/191 was for heated saws, 198/199 was for the standard versions.

If your saw runs fine I wouldn't worry about this.  -But if not, then . . .

Finding the number on your carb is hard. You need a good light for the number is on the side of the carb and buried by some of the mechanism on most saw versions.  The number (199) is very faint on some carbs and hard to see if it says 198 or 199?

Most of these have a balance reference tube that extends up inside the air filter. It might be best (good sense) to do your tuning with the air filter and covers on the saw?

The best I can decipher, my 2008 357XP has the HDA 199 and it is easy to see the metal clamp on the boot. And it runs fine.

I believe quite a few of the saws with those carbs run fine. If not, I believe the change to a different carb would have happened earlier.

I've got a 357 walbro 199 on my 45cc 346 and it has never been a problem. Only thing I have had happen is the old style plastic intake clamp came undone somehow. I caught it cleaning up the saw.

The 357 MOS has, has a 199 on it and the replacement zama was bought for it by another owner after me and it wouldnt run right with it on there. Maybe a bad carb from factory. He said he put the 199 back on and it ran fine.

Can you still get the 199 or do they force the Zama on you?

The 199 has a accelerator pump and the Zama does not?

I think for now I'll just bore the stock carb a bit and call it good. It's just a worksaw but I really hoped for more of a runner.
