Thanks Killians.  Exactly!!  But the metal clamp has thrown me for a loop and I don't want to pursue the service bulletin issue if i'm not eligible.  Any thoughts on the metal clamp, which my saw has versus the plastic clamp that seems to be associated with the problems in the bulletin?

thx

The new clamp was introduced on the 359 beginning with serial number 06 1100001/2006 week 11, your saw number is 06 1300384/2006 week 13, so you got the new clamp and the new partition wall. The carb however was introduced on the production line with serial number 08 4500001/2008 week 45, it appears that you are eligible for a replacement carb, however the SB is over 6 years old so no-cost replacement may no longer be available to you.

You can buy the carb from my buddy Carl Neilson (captneversail) for $36.00 if you are having troubles with your Walbro. Check here:

Only thing that was covered at no cost to original owner was the plastic clamp and partition.   I got one to know this. The carbs are on you.

From the serial number you quoted for your 359 (06 1300384/ 2006 week 13) and the service bulletin which states that the Zama carb was introduced with serial number (08 4500001/ 2008 week 45), I believe you have one of the three the earlier Walbros that were used. The SB further states ' The new name of the carburetor is Zama C3-EL42, replacing Walbro HDA199A/B and HDA191A'.

The carb should be a Walbro, with that serial number. That is the better option, as long as it doesn't act up (and even that can be fixed). I wouldn't want one with the replacement Zama. Not because it is a Zama, but because in this case it is a lesser carb.

I've read this argument a couple times and although most experts agree that walbro's are better carbs overall, the consensus seems to be that this series of walbros presented more problems in the 359's than it was worth.  In addition, I have a non-oem muffler on the saw and I've read that the zama's perform better with this modification.  I'm am no expert, I catch fish not logs.  But I do burn wood and a powerful, reliable saw is part of my quiver.
You all know more than I do about saws so thanks for the input.  Regardless, my saw is having carb/fuel delivery issues and I need it fixed.

Didn't see that post...

When we did the 359 build off(all new saws) , the low speed circuit and metering side of the side of the zama was the issue on the saws.  Fiddled with increasing low speed orifices, etc and it cured the horrible idle and hesitation .   This was almost 8-9 years ago so I don't remember the details.

I think David Young built one of those saws?

Is that the build off where we ran the saws at Dave Niegers house?  Big Dave.

I remember Brian Timberwolfs saw. Just wow.
