Husqvarna 346XP OE vs NE
« on: November 09, 2013, 10:33:10 am »
I have both of these saws sitting on a shelf, both run well and are in VERY good shape but not sure that I need both. If I were to let one go to a new home which would I be better off keeping? OK, Troll time for the facts  from Norway! ;D

I owned both stock and ported.  The NE 50cc top has noticeable more torque as it should with the 4cc increase.  I like my plastics on the OE 46cc better though. Plus the OE has no primer bulb which is what I prefer.

Thanks Cut, I feel the same way, both of mine are stock.

Put a NE 50cc top on the OE body and have the best of both worlds.  ;)

Yes, except the difference is 5cc, not 4 (45 vs. 50). The OE is more of a specialized limbing saw (it actually replaced the 242xp), while the NE is more alround.

I like the primer bulb though, but it isn't a big deal.

I always screw up the cc on the OE for some reason. I go 45cc 46cc flip flop all the time for unknown reasons as seen in past postings.   :D :D :D :P

I have both. Had the OE  since early 2001 and have put a ton of hours on it. Had the NE since 2010... Both great saws! I'll keep em both!

I like my OE better, but it's ported and about 40% stronger/faster than the stock NE. I'll probably port the NE at some point, but it's just fine stock...

Yup, it is getting a bit "old"!  ;D

The only 46cc Husky I know of is the 246.

I just looked at my NE 346 and it was sitting in a pool of bar oil. The OE saw is tight as a drum. Is there something peculiar about the NE and oil leaks? Just thought I would ask before I started checking it out.

The difference could just be in the temp/pressure etc. history after the last use, and the amount of oil in the tank (and in the bar mount area).  ???
