I have no idea what the stuff is, or what the reasoning was that the conents of the catalytic muffler were considered hazardous. Some metals themselves can be hazardous (Lead and Cadmium are two examples).

Wish I could remember where I heard or read this.  I haven't found anything to back it up on a brief search.  I figured maybe some of you guys would know...

You know the way I look at it, I worked in a Nuclear weapon storage area for 2 years. They used to test all the time in the areas where I worked.
I also worked with Betty, 1 of only 2 in the world, monster tracking radar with lines painted on everything about 10 feet off the ground. We wasnt suppose to go above it.  You could hear waves of sound from it going through our cassette players like a whoop whoop whoop humming. So we had to have copper screen boxes to keep the waves down. 
Also be in front of 2 detection fans pointed at USSR for detecting missile launches. Skulls and cross bones on the fences around them  for some reason with foreign languages.

So I'm not to worried  about this CAT muffler.
