Got the muffler open up. Drill through the baffle everywhere and pulled about 3/4 of the tube out that ran from top to baffle area. So mostly all the tube is gone but at the top where it exits now.

I didn't see anything dangerous about doing this e-tech muffler. Is this the one people call the Cat muffler = catalytic muffler?
It should have "cat" or "catalytic" stamped under the part number?

Yep CAT right under the numbers.

IMO nothing there to worry about.  All I see was a metal baffle going across with itty bitty holes o o o o zig zagged in baffle and a tube in front of baffle running front to back and up to  top for exit.

That plate has some kind of platinum coating on it.

Some CAT mufflers like on the Dolmars have a honeycomb biscuit for the reactor part that is heavy as lead.

If i remember correctly, that honeycomb biscuit is the hazardous part.  You do not want to inhale or ingest any of the dust from working it, or get it any cuts or open wounds.  I can't remember what it is, but whoever filled me in on this said it's more hazardous to your system than lead.

Drilling the baffle it all looked all metal to me. If any coating it was on the opposite side facing away.

I have no idea what the stuff is, or what the reasoning was that the conents of the catalytic muffler were considered hazardous. Some metals themselves can be hazardous (Lead and Cadmium are two examples).

Wish I could remember where I heard or read this.  I haven't found anything to back it up on a brief search.  I figured maybe some of you guys would know...

I searched around about a catalytic converter being hazardous and can only surmise that the problem is with the platinum itself being a "heavy metal" and the fumes carrying platinum particles to your lungs where it stays?

I think the situation is that the scrap companies themselves want to play up the hazardous bit so that they can get them for nothing and recover the precious platinum?

You know the way I look at it, I worked in a Nuclear weapon storage area for 2 years. They used to test all the time in the areas where I worked.
I also worked with Betty, 1 of only 2 in the world, monster tracking radar with lines painted on everything about 10 feet off the ground. We wasnt suppose to go above it.  You could hear waves of sound from it going through our cassette players like a whoop whoop whoop humming. So we had to have copper screen boxes to keep the waves down.
Also be in front of 2 detection fans pointed at USSR for detecting missile launches. Skulls and cross bones on the fences around them  for some reason with foreign languages.

So I'm not to worried  about this CAT muffler.

353 should not have a primer bulb. I had a chance to pick one up cheap but passed, didn't think I would get it past the household CFO. I don't NEED one but want it and that's good enough for me.

Just so you can see it. The 2011 353 I had looked at had primer bulb. Here is a 2011 husqvarna 353 IPL showing primer bulb page 16. http://www.husqvarna.com/ddoc/HUSI/HUSI2011_AAaa/HUSI2011_AAaa__15.pdf

I think (not sure) somewhere on 2007 they made the switch. That being said this 353 I just picked up must be 07 or older. Will know when I check the metal tag when it comes in.

That sounds correct - the 353 got the primer about the same time as the 346xp became the NE.

Jacks order came in today. Had to wait a couple days for supports to show up to them.  Still quicker then my local.

Also watch the guys selling the metal clamps for $10 plus. They are only $2 oem.
