Just do a better job than I did, got impatient and went to a cordless drill with small bit and broke bit off. I damaged the threads for needle and cannot get cleaned up. In my opinion this would work.

Now getting to the accel. pump requires getting the small cap out end of carb, removing throttle blade and shaft.

Good info on the Walbro carb. Many people are looking for a solution to the problem.

Slightly off topic but some pictures of my 2008 357XP that was a rebuild from being crushed in a felling accident. It has new case halves and rear handle. It wasn't used enough to be dirty from the beginning. It Stihl has the original HD-99 carburetor. It now has the correct bar.

Picture of the plug before.

I think you could put the spring, plunger, leave the ball out, and it would seal off and the idle circuit would pull fuel needed thru drilled hole.

Has anyone tried this fix?

wondering if anyone has done this and had any luck?

I'd like to do it, but don't want to wreck my Hda 199a carb.
there are ppl that say they can fix for $25 plus shipping or so. wondering if this is all they are doing to fix them?

thanks,

I have not figured out what the problem is with them yet.

I have a 357 with this carb.  The carb has an accelerator pump and tunes differently from all my other chainsaws.

You can set the low speed needle too lean to where steady running at lower mid range - it will lean out and quit unless you wiggle the trigger.

I have found that to increase the mixture at low speed slightly prevents this.

I figure the $25 fix is that the accelerator pump is blocked off. Then you tune the carburetor like all the other chainsaws.

Here is the thread of the guy offering the fix.  http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/ported-saws/hda-carb-fix/

I have heard of a few guys sending bad 199 carbs to him for the fix and they come back working.  ;)

The biggest problem with the HDA-199 is with people using the wrong carb repair kit.

The correct kits are the K24-HDA for the complete kit and D24-HDA for just the diaphragms.

People have trying to use the K22-HDA & D22-HDA kit in these and the carb no longer works.

The HDA-199 has a unique vent set-up for the metering diaphragm and to use the wrong parts will prevent the metering valve from working properly.
