Husqvarna 359 Crankcase Splitter
« on: November 22, 2013, 07:49:43 am »
Need to replace crank bearings on one of my 359's.  I have 502-5161-01 splitter (lg. one) 288-372 etc. and 502-5236-01 (sm. one)42-246-etc.  Problem is neither one will go over big end of rod.  I really don't want to bend either one to make em clear.  Is there another splitter for the 359?  I know there is one for 357 because of crank stuffers.  Same for 346 w/stuffers.
I have PN's for 5 diff. splitters:
502-5161-01   55-262-272-288-372-390-395-3120-etc.
502-5236-01   238-246-240SE-42-44-346,351 (no stuffers) etc.
502-5249-01   ???
537-3348-01   ???
757-2869-01   555-560-532    550??
Can anyone fill in the blanks?
Thanks,
Shep

Warm up the nearside crankcase half around the bearing. The bearing should slip out with out too much hammering?

Shep I have searched till I cant stand.  Cant find anything.  Let us know what you dig up.

I also searched forever on the old oregon bar in it's own thread. I found nothing, you?

Me I have never used a splitter and just rednecked it (just hard headed I guess).  I got real good with the rubber hammer and a round punch with hammer.

Bill perhaps there is some way to get this to SawTroll. He may be privy to info we are not. I will try to PM him with your original post.

While I was doing a search I did come across this.

GENUINE HUSQVARNA PULLER  502524901
AYP, Dixon, Poulan and Husqvarna have merged.  Many of their part numbers are the same.  Manufacturer listed may vary.

A crank case separator, never seen one,but I have never split any small cases either.
Done several 394's and 3120's etc and just use a hair drier and rubber mallet.(after ''ALL'' the bolts are removed)
Some like to leave them in the sun for a couple of hours 1st clutch side up then give it the hair drier treatment.
I have seen results of serious hammering and its never pretty, done right and its not hard at all.
Anyone building race saws will need to do this at some stage, even with a puller made to do this task, my guess the clutch side bearing will need heating as they do stick tight cold.

My case splitter is home made and I usually find a way to adapt to what ever I am working on.
