Husqvarna 371
« on: November 25, 2011, 03:15:35 pm »
I just bought a 371 fixer upper. The only thing i see that is different than the 372 is the clutch cover does not have the chain tensioner. Anything else that i'm missing?

Could be a 1 ring early instead of 2 like they went to later. Didnt some early have bolt on intakes? The small rod end on my 371  was a little different. Nothing you would notice with it together though.

You can see most of it in this husqvarna 371 362 and epa IPL  http://s30387.gridserver.com/partsDiagrams/Husqvarna%20371.pdf

I already have it tore down. It has two rings and clamp on intake. It was made in 98. I don't know about the rod end though. It has scoring on the piston. It needs new rings for sure. Exhaust side of ring is visibly narrower than sides. Crank bearings are tight. That was a good trip to my amish jred dealer today. 8)

The only other difference was a semi transparent tank on the 372's. Only the late 96/early 97 371's had the single ring from my experience. I've never seen a differences in the crank or rod either and have had 20-25 of them apart

Look at the 371 IPL top of rod is beveled on 2 sides. I have bought new oem 372 cranks and have used 372 cranks out  and that is the other difference I seen. The 371 crank rod is the only one I have seen like this in my 371, 362xp, 365, 372 saws.

Wonder what the point of the tapered rod end is?

No, the saw came complete. I painted the covers new Kabota orange. The covers were that ugly dark orange that husky gets after several years of weather exposure and whatnot. And yes, redneck squish. ;)
