I believe that if you look closely at this picture you will see that the way the mod is done would require 1) a  flat outlet and one whose mounting holes correspond to the spacing of the muffler bolts. Which would probably be the 288 outlet but from Spike60s' picture it looks like the 288 version is turned down on the right edge and 262 is flat but has those teeth which I suppose could be ground off. 2

I think they used the 262 outlet and ground off the teeth. Perhaps Spike60 could confirn which outlets are flat.

Well by 660magnum's picture it appears that it must be the 262 version because it is the inly one that ppears to be flat. The muffler brackets' front surface where the outlet is flat.

It appears that the 257/262 outlet is the only one that comes close for use on a 262 front plate. However 503 54 54-01 is only available as a Poulan or Electrolux part 18$ each...ouch! 18$ is not a problem I guess but what is a problem is not knowing the spacing of the holes in the plate, because they must match the spacing of the bolt holes in the mounting plate, if one were to duplicate the one pictured earlier in this thread.

Anyone got one on hand they could measure?

The 288 outlet may also work but it appears that the mounting surface is not flat, anyone have one to look at and measure?

288 goes flat easily by just using pliers.  I have the 266 ones too. Same thing, they all go flat easily.

flat for a 084 DP cover I did.
