Husqvarna 44 engine parts?
« on: May 25, 2014, 12:09:38 am »
I have an early Husqvarna Rancher 44 with scored piston & rings. I realize OEM piston, rings, cylinder etc are NLA,also can't find anything aftermarket. So the question is are engine parts available for this model, will any other 42mm pistons work, is there a standard overbore for these?  Saw is in good shape otherwise and hate to just junk it.  Any help pointing in the right direction would be appreciated.
Thanks
CD

The 42mm piston for the 45cc 346xp has been used for this application before, but it will have to be revorked by someone that knows what he is doing.

It can't be used as is.

Saw won't start so using as is isn't going to be an issue.  What exactly needs to be reworked? Can the cylinder from the 45 be used as well?  Any links to a rebuild ?
Thanks

2 totally different saws. the 45 is a clammy and makes far less power.
no aftermarket parts. and be prepared to wait for anything to come up.

So cylinder cannot be used because it is clam style not bolt on,is that right?  Can the piston and ring from the 45 be used with original cylinder if I can just hone it?  I can do some machining if necessay or basically is the best option get another saw?

Do not put a hone in the cylinder

Why no hone?  Can it be bored or is wall to thin?

It is a plated cylinder and you will destroy the plating eventually.

If the cylinder is galled you can try to remove the gall with Emory cloth. But holes in the chrome plating may be detrimental to long term chainsaw operation.
