Husqvarna 555 chain tensioner gear stripping?
« on: April 20, 2017, 02:11:01 pm »
I went to change the chain on my 555 (20" bar); loosened the bolts and tried to back off the tension before I pulled the cover off. There was a nasty clicking sound and it didn't want to back off. I pried the cover off and after cleaning  out the dust from the latest work I took the tension assembly apart, finding the little vertical helical gear had hopped over the matching gear on the screw, breaking the top of the threads; so now it only tightens and tries to strip when backing it off- and I have it clean and lubed.I have low hours on the saw, this was the first chain change. I asked the dealer about it, they said it's the first they heard of it. So I had to order another assembly-only way they come- for $22..
Has anyone else run into this, any recalls or factory coverage? Its a cleaver little set up but way too light IMO. I was ok with the old style personally.

Thats a new one for me. I would think the 555 560 562 would all have the same tensioner.

Thanks for sharing the info and welcome to the site.

Just reading on some of the updates on model.

3. New Crankcase, assy 575 38 02-17 with new ball bearings. The Clutch side of the crankcase is made of Aluminium, which will increase the durability.

4. New Screw 510 02 06-02 for oil pump. This screw has a Micro coating, Dri Loc added for sealing. This due to the screw holes for the oil pump goes straight through the new crankcase.

5. A New Clutch, assy kit 589 80 90-01 with increased lifetime has been introduced. This kit consists of Clutch, assy and an instruction.

The Old spring 580 65 35-02 can´t be used on the New Clutch 589 80 90-01. The New spring 502 16 4701 can´t be used on the Old Clutch 574 23 61-04.
