Husqvarna 455 plastic crankcase
« on: July 01, 2013, 06:24:55 am »
I am getting a second hand 455 Rancher on Ebay for a very good price. But I have read on a lot of forums that its plastic crankcase is a very big problem. It gets melted on heating up.
So should I buy it? Anyone who has experienced any such issues?

Never seen a 455 crankcase melted here.

Have seen the husky 350 crankcase melted through when the muffler gets loose.

Agree w/Cut I've not seen one on 455 either.  I've seen plastic melted from people running them with the chain brake on.  Cooks the plastic behind the clutch.

As far as plastic case and first generation Strato chainsaws go, the 455 stands out pretty good. It is also easier to work on than many others.

The plastic doesn't melt if not something else is seriously wrong.

This is one of the better built plastic cased saws as far as I know, but the power to weight ratio is far from good....
