Husqvarna 455 rancher Oil issues
« on: December 08, 2012, 05:36:40 am »
Hello,
New here to this site, and hoping for some help!

I have a 2010 Rancher 455, gets lots of use and is well maintained. I made the mistake of letting someone borrow it. When it was returned the chain was cooked and it was no longer oiling. After taking it apart I found that the plastic pinion gear for the oiler was striped. I purchased new pinion and chain, and cleaning everything. The bar is clean, oil holes are clear. The oil line from the pump to the bar is clear. Everything appears to be normal.  When running the saw it is not lubing the bar or the chain, instead the clutch housing is soaked and oil is dripping excessively from around the area of the clutch. I took the saw apart several times and checked over everything several times, all seams ok. When running the saw without the bar and chain the oil is coming out where it is supposed to, but with bar and chain on it is not lubing chain and bar.

Again the bar is clear of an debris and oil holes are clear, been soaked with cleaner and blown out with compressed air.

Any Ideas would be great.

btw the local dealer is stumped as well ....

Is the bar oiler hole lining up with the rubber oil pump oiler area on the crankcase?  In other words is your chain stretched to far or maybe a new one in wrong drive link count causing the bar to be past the oiler mating surface. Have seen both happen before.

Thanks for the reply -
Yes the bar oiler hole is lining up with the rubber oil pump area on the crank. I will try an old chain just for the hell of it and see what happens. Could it be possible that there is a problem with where the rubber hose connects to the pump?

Thanks

Look at this thread. Pics in there too   http://chainsawrepair.createaforum.com/husqvarna/husqvarna-455/

I think I put a 455 IPL in there. I'm not woke or thinking correctly right now.  :-[

Thanks for the links, That's basically what my plastic gear lucked like. I tried two of my old chains, and all do the same. Oil over takes the clutch and drips out the bottom, but never makes it down the bar. I tried running the chain lose so that the bar oil hole would be in a different spot on the rubber, this also made no difference.

I was thinking of putting some sort of spacer under the rubber to push it out against the bar. Do you think that would be a wise idea? Or maybe something thin on top of the part of the rubber hose that fits over top the pump to make a tighter seal?

And your right its to early for this, but I really need to make use of the nice weather to get more fire wood.  :)

The oiler area, oil canal. Bar and chain on saw.
Flip the bar over and try that. There has to be something blocking the hole if oil flows without the bar on the saw.
