Husqvarna 55
« on: April 12, 2014, 08:53:50 pm »
Hope this will attach. Don't know Husqvarnas very well but a  local seller has this one for $100. I'd like to know a little about it before I go take a look. It's labeled 55 Air Injection but also looks similar to saws I've seen with the 55 Rancher label. Is it farm and ranch grade or Poulan grade? He says it runs and cuts great and is selling due to buying a Stihl Pro saw.Thanks.

"Farm grade" with a magnesium case, and made in Sweden, not by Poulan.

Thanks SawTroll. It looks really clean. If it checks out mechanically as well it may be a $100 well spent for a firewood saw.

Saw troll is it a clam shell crankcase like the 455.

Either way no matter what design it is, it is still worth 100 easy if in good shape.

That 55 with that label on recoil could be closed port 45mm topend too.  Good runners.   Even if not and open port well worth the 100.

Ok I found the IPL and it shows a regular split crankcase.

If it is a 46mm open port you can get a CP 46mm top end from Meteor and use an 028S domed piston in it and it will go very well. As a matter of 'do diligence' the carb plate, pulse and carb grommets should be replaced in all 55s, no matter how good they look!

I had a open port 46mm aftermarket one and they run just fine.  It still felt better and IMO outcut the 455 I was testing against.  I like the lighter weight of the PHO of the 55 too.
I dont care anymore about closed and open.  Being I aint building for fastest in the cut type stuff anymore.

Just thought of something.  My fastest cutting partner 5000 and dolmar 166 were both made open port from closed port cylinders for racing. They had the bridge removed.
This was something that Marcel Vincent MVP racesaw builder used to do and worked real well and  builders copy his work today.
