Husqvarna 61

What are the difference in say a husky 61 then 268?
Then making a 272 out of the 61 like the 268 is. Is the intakes, carbs etc different on a 61? Other stuff on 61 different then 268 that needs swapped to do a 272 swap? 272 intake bigger? No clue here on these.

There are two different 61's.  Most are the 'old style' with the 2 piece ignition and the cases that fit it (and the various top covers that fit those cases).  They also have the idle speed screw in the case.  Same cases used on the 162, 61, 66, and 266.

Then there's the late 61's that used the one piece 268/272 ignitions, the cases that take those ignitions, and the top covers whith the correct screw pattern for those cases.  These have the idle speed screw on the carb.  I have a set of cases from one of these.

A 61 is a 48mm bore saw with an open port jug and a smaller carb and intake.  Can't recall if the late 61's have the larger intake and carb as used on the 272.

This series is very open to parts swapping.  Depending on what cases you have, certain swaps take a bit more thinking.

Is the 2 piece ignition and coil stuff hard to find if this one has this?

They're NLA now.  NOS still floating around ebay and elsewhere.  Used stuff is around too, and there are now aftermarket coils and modules for this series as well.

Not scarce like many other old saw ignitions are, thankfully.

One piece module will not fit in/on the 2-piece ign cases.

Will check back later. Got to go cut some wood up for a friend and get some ash logs for testing myself.   Then watch game 2 world series. Go Tribe.

Of course you could swap cases.  Good used one piece ign cases are easy to find.  Not really a need to though IMO.   The 2 piece ign is reliable, and not hard to find a spare setup for.  I don't mind the 2 piece setup on my 266XP...
