and if its open port potential power would suffer.My 162 is the same potr

No clue here. Never pulled the open port cylinder. Went straight to a collector overseas somewhere.  Thinking it was Finland. Cant recall for sure now.

Intake port really shouldn't be smaller than a 266. Actually ought to be bigger. That 66 top end is the same as used on the 268 open port and 268K cut off saws. Uses the same intake block as the 268/272. Possible that different cylinder sources could be the deal. Gilardoni maybe? My 66 is from the Tomos factory, and I've never taken mine apart either.
