I finally got one of these since the last time we talked about them. Low hours and in good shape. I'll try and get some pics up at some point.

I have a cylinder,and the intake port is much smaller than my 266se
and if its open port potential power would suffer.My 162 is the same potr
openings of the 266se

No clue here. Never pulled the open port cylinder. Went straight to a collector overseas somewhere.  Thinking it was Finland. Cant recall for sure now.

Corey compared the 66 and 268 open port. = I always thought the Tomas built 66 used the same Gilardoni topend as the 268 non xp, they are in fact different, same 50mm open port but the 66 uses the older 266 style intake design and more laid back spark plug. same piston used in both. Just throwing the info out there.

OK, mystery solved. The 66 was actually made with both of the cylinders in question! There is a service bulletin from Jan 1991 that announces the change to the 268K top end. It also lists all of the necessary intake parts. Entering either of the original cylinder numbers supersedes to the current 268K replacement item. The cylinder has the same 5036111 casting number, but is now produced in Brazil by Kolbenschmidt, and has the "KS" emblem cast on the other side.

Well, I took a quick look at my 66. Has the 4 bolt intake so it's the early P&C on my saw. Not curious enough to pull it off and check it out, but from what we've got going here it looks like the early 66's use a top end that is unique to those first few years that isn't shared with any other model. (And no Jonsered version either.) Makes it a little more interesting from a collector standpoint. And a reason to give it a workout on the wood pile. At some point this summer I'll pull mine out and run it along with my 1992 268OP.
