Roger, is that the black wire that is trapped under a screw in the carb box that holds the flat contact spring? Sometimes it is possible with forceps to fish a new wire without dismantling the saw.

Yes that was the one.   It's all done now, but the problem is getting that top section free that sits above the carb so you can see what the heck the problem is and fixing it.
