Husqvarna model 61 no fire new coil
« on: April 22, 2013, 07:27:24 pm »
I recently replaced the ignition coil in my Husky61, and it ran for about 1 minute, then quit. There is no fire to spark plug.Shear pin is good.Gap is .012" on coil, and spec on plug.
The old coil was replaced because it quit firing.Kill switch is good,no fire with switch wire unplugged, switch tests good with digital meter.Resistance from plug wire to ground is about 6k ohms.Same  from plug wire to kill wire with it disconnected from ground and clear of ground.
Anyone know the normal resistance of a  good coil?
Any suggestions are appreciated.Hard to believe a new coil went bad in 1 minute, but it is possible i guess.

I measured a husky 372 coil

Spark plug wire socket in coil to ground 2640 ohms  this would be checking the HV continuity

Ignition switch connector to ground 304 ohms   This should be checking the LV continuity

2964 ohms between spark plug wire socket and the ignition switch connector
We should share what we know... someone may learn...

Is it the one or two piece ignition?
If it is the one piece unit, remove the ignition, clean all of the paint from the engine case at the ignition contact area. I have seen them that would not make a ground.

Most problems of any ignition system ,points or solid state are on the low voltage side of the circuit .Which is exactly as Dan  said being the ground for the coil .
