i'd check the carb out along with the crank seals...and the fuel line and filter.
those 42's had a nasty bend in the fuel line. i "fix'em by blocking the original fuel line hole in fuel tank off and drilling a new hole in the fuel tank,so as to give the new line a more straight shot to carb without that nasty bend in it.
can supply pic if needed.

here's some pic's to show you what i do.
the saw pictured was given to me free, when owner bought new 345 because " i never could get this saw started" (42)    ???

here you can see fuel line attached to carb.

the screw is put in the "old" fuel line and is used for a block-off.you can see the "new" hole i drilled for new fuel line and it's new position, with no kink in it.

this saw is one of my favorites, the repair works for me....the saw ALWAYS start's up good, plus it was free to me  ;)  ;D
