So does it feel light in the hands for trim work?

Mitch you got a 242 to test against?  Spike was saying his new 543  tested out good from get go against his stock 242 and was going to test against a worked over 242 in future..

Not a runner.  Closest thing I have is my personal 435.  I have always liked the 435 and wanted this one for a replacement.  To be honest, I wanted to throw it in a dumpster for the first coupe tanks.

LOL!!

Yeah, it's beyond lame when it comes out of the box. Carb was pretty fussy to get it to run good at first. Not just top end, but throttle response as well.  By the second tank, it was keeping up with a stock, and NOT broken in rebuilt 242. My modded and well broken in 242 stomped it. I'm only on my 5th tank, and it's finally waking up to some of the hype.

Mitch: What are you getting for RPM's? Specs are 14,500, and I'm told that after break in they are running them @ 15,000+ and it's a whole different animal. Mine doesn't want to hit 14,500 let alone 15,000 yet. If I try and go past 14,300 it falls flat on it's face. Guess I need to run the thing some more, but I've been in some bigger wood lately, so I've been running bigger saws. I've griped about this before, but breaking in saws is a pain for me. Kind of the "too many saws; too little time" problem.

My honest opinion so far: It's a nice little saw and I love working with it. But until it can equal a good running 242XP, which it might when fully broken in, it falls short of the target. (which for all purposes IS the 242) Unless it hits that target, then I feel you give up too much power for the savings in weight vs the 550, or even the 545. This is particularly true for us saw geeks, because is something like the 550 ever going to be "too heavy" for any of us? But if this thing can hit 15,000, then we'll have one fun saw on our hands.
