Larger Carb for the non X-Torq 372?
« on: July 22, 2012, 07:34:54 pm »
The standard carb for the non X-Torq (prior to 2010) 372XP has been the Walbro HD12B. It has a venturi bore of 17.46mm

The X-Torq version that came out in 2010 has a Walbro RWJ-4 carb with a venturi of  19.05 mm. That is 1.59mm larger.

But there is a problem in swapping them. It is not the choke or throttle cables as they hook right up. The problem is that the mounting bolts on the RWJ-4 are not straight across but are at an angle. But with the correct Husqvarna parts, it can be made to work on the old style 372XP.

You must use the air filter elbow for the newer (2010) 372 XT. This piece also serves as a mount for the carburetor.

You must use the intake complete boot assembly from the Husqvarna 385/390. Not only the boot, but also the plastic bracket and insert.

This would be a good option for someone running a ported XPW 51.4mm or 52mm after market P/C assembly? The standard bore on a 372 piston is 50mm.

After you are finished, the Husqvarna 372 would look stock in the carb area to all but the very experienced Husqvarna 372 chainsaw mechanic.

Thanks to TK in Maine for the tip on the intake boot interface.
