More Walbro RWJ-4 Stuff
« on: December 18, 2013, 04:47:26 pm »
It appears that there is an updated version of the RWJ-4 from Walbro. I think the carb is now called RWJ-4-1. Anyone got the poop on what has been changed or where I could find out?

More info just came in from a buddy who is a distributor for Walbro, Zama and Tillotson........the new Walbro RWJ-4-1 is a direct replacement for the RWJ-4 but..............it is made by Tilly!

Thanks for the info.  I do have a question on one of your 372 BBK's you put a RWJ4 on it and changed it for the 385 Tilly.  Why?
Thanks,
Shep

I changed it to the 385 Tilly (IIRC HS-296A) just to see if it made a difference, it did but not in the way you might think. The Walbro was a little taller than the Tilly and would cause the HD filter to contact he high top filter cover and crush the back of the filter when everything was buttoned up.

As far as performance went, the Tilly has a tiny bit larger venturi but I could not tell any difference. I have not done anything to the porting of the saw as of yet so things may change when I do that.

Shep, Merry Christmas and may God bless you and your family!

Tim

That is true I am sure. I may not have quoted the correct carb ID, I will check in the morning because I have tw 385 carbs on my bench. Sorry if I misled you!

Actually I was suprised on the HS 296 I thought it was larger than 17.46.  Tilly HS service  pdf doesn't show 385-390 HS299 so I don't know on it.  Having found the venturi  on HS296 is same as Walbro HD12 why change em on the 372.

It looks like the only difference between the HS-296 and the -299 is the adjustment limiters (on the -296).

The difference is the same with the -298 vs. the -300, on the 395xp. The venturi also is the same (nominal) 17.46 mm on all those carbs.
