Providing the thread on the adjuster is not damaged and the locating pin of the adjuster is located correctly then in theory providing the clutch cover nuts(s) are tightened up the chain shouldn't slacken off at all. If you have inspected those items and all are fine, then are you tightening the bar cover up with the bar in it's 'upwise' position. Ie, as if you were putting pressure on the bar whilst cutting? A lot of people tighten bar covers without exerting upwards hand pressure to the tip beofre tightening, this can allow the chain to loosen whilst cutting as the bar can slip upwards against the bar 'stop' under the cover. Let's assume all that is fine, then remove it all and firstly inspect the bar- particularly the bar tip if it has a sprocket nose- the needle bearings can fail and can cause the sprocket to run off centre- in which case replace the bar. Next check the clutch sprocket for wear- if oyou have significant high and low wear on the sprocket gear teeth you will get irregular adjustment- tight one rotation and loose the other. Next, the clutch drum bearing- easy to remove and check- if in any doubt just replace as they are cheap. Finally if all that seems ok, then you are looking at crankshaft bearings and/or a bent crankshaft. Start cheap and easy to check and work up to the dear less obvious stuff.

I'm curious what saw brand and model and if it has one of those tool less chain  tenisoner cover set ups.

Only saws I see with that issue local been those.

I install regular covers and tensioner set ups on them and no more issues.

Cut4fun, do you have part#'s required for that conversion? I have a 450e and that is my problem, ill sometimes have to tighten my chain every few cuts.

It is the one nut, it has that tool less thingy on it. is that what you usually replace just the single nut and the adjuster?
