Need help ASAP on this other saw also please
« on: November 30, 2013, 06:09:13 pm »
There's also this other saw that won't start. I know the pull cord is pulled out, that is because I asked my dad if he could get this one going and obviously just got pissed and pulled to hard on the string.

I'm pretty new to fixing these saws but when the cord is in working condition the saw won't start. So I will need some direction to fix this string, then get this saw going.

The saw is a 372 xp.

Thanks

First you are going to need to disassemble the starter and fix or replace the spring.

Then we can go step by step to perhaps get it running.

To run a chainsaw needs compression, air, fuel, and spark.

Is the starter right under the cover or what? And I would prefer to fix the idle on the other saw and use that for now, if you could assit me in my other thread that would be great.

Remove the four bolts that hold the starter cover on. They don't come completely out. Then there is a screw that holds the starter pulley on. The spring is under there. It is broken. Sometimes you can bend a new end on them and sometimes you need a new stater spring.

Sounds like you are getting in over your head in a hurry here?

I just went on youtube and seen a couple repair videos that will help you fix your problem. you could watch step by step video to help guide you in fixing it.

I strongly suggest taking a small engines repair class or two at a local community college before diving into something like this.......

Where are you located?  Are you near anyone who could lend a hand?

That's also a good idea.  If he's close to one of us maybe we can get him pointed in the right direction.  Rehabbing a saw isn't one of those "I saw some videos on how to fix it on youtube" things.  He may get it running..............but it probably won't be right (and therefore won't be running for long).  Things like pressure/vacuum tests, crank seals, impulse lines, and the like may well be missed.....
