I was thinking on buying a new 372xp, non x torq. I have heard of some issues with the crank bearings on the 372's. What saws are effected by the crank bearing problems, x torq, non x torq? I have a 2012 390xp, are there any issues with the crank bearings on them?

The solution to the problem with both the 372 and 390 bearing failures has been to use more oil. They are talking 40:1 instead of 50:1. I use 32:1 and have not had any trouble. I have a half dozen of the 372 types.

I think you nailed it .Lubrication is the life blood of any engine ,2 cycle or no .

that's one problem some people just can't wrap their head around. they get the blinders on and only think about the topend. and don't bother to think about bearings. I can't tell you how many saws I've pulled down only to find the big end as blue as babe the ox, or the bearings getting that dull tint to them. tell the guy about using more oil and they look at you like you grew a second nose.
i'm a strong believer in 32-40:1 (I run just a tad richer than 40:1) ratios. and some people like to argue the point, but you mention the lower end unit needing the lube and they get very confused like a child thinking a math question out.
when you show them the bottom end of their saw, with the big blue end, and dull looking bearings. then you show them what it's supposed to look like, they usually get the idea.

I agree, 32-40:1 is THE ticket. People just don't realize that the bottom end is important too. Well, I guess that is what keeps us all in work. What kills me is that they complain about the saw needing work and the cost there of, without a clue that they are not doing anything to prevent problems!

Well I've been running everything I own at 32:1 regardless if any manufacturer says 50:1, 50:1 just seems way to light on oil for something spinning the rpms of a chainsaw and the likes.
I was afraid that the bearing failures were do to cheaper bearings in the newer saws. I own a 2012 husky 390xp 28''bar, I've only cut about 30 face cord with it but love the saw, I was thinking of adding a 372xp with a 20'' bar to my collection. My old 51's run fine, but as you know, are not in the same league power wise.

Good thoughts. I have seen some bearings fail that had the plastic retainers but have also seen the metal retainers fail but all were due to oiling issues. Bearing failures IMO are far more prevalent in the 385/390 saws because of the mix ratio and bearing design.

You guys nailed it, lubrication is always the issue in one form or another. I don't care if it is tweaking a small block rod journal or opening up the hole in a 20" bar on a rancher, reliability and longevity begins and ends with proper lubrication.
