Mangus, I haven't heard or read anything bad about the Husqvarna X-Torq/Stratos other than it takes them quite a few tanks to break in.

I tend to agree with Magnus regarding the X-torq/strato though - it isn't a really effective way to reduce emissions and save fuel, despite it seem like the best availiable at the moment.....

I was planning to have 2171 ported, but now I think I wait to find out more about this "new" 70cc saw coming out. If Hedge has it on his "Just Buy" list, I'd say it is worth checking out.

Next fall at the earliest. The saws that are being replaced, (372XT and 576), are both EPA compliant. So, there is no need to hurry this to market.

Reading that it has an inboard clutch should not be a reason to draw automatic conclusions. Picking it up might reveal the saw to be a great handler. The 372 has an inboard clutch and people don't complain that it handles poorly. The impact of clutch location on a larger frame 70cc saw is different than on a smaller frame 50cc saw.

Guessing the USA and other countries are testing all the new prototypes in the field, same here in Australia.
A very certain few here test and report new products over several months in different environments.
No one sees the saws or hears anything about them because the test pilots are not allowed to discuss or show new prototypes.
If a test saw is stolen or word gets out amongst the industry of new products about to be introduced, that test pilot will be removed from the program forever.
Its a prestigious thing to be asked to test new products by major manufacturers such as stihl or Husqvarna and not taken lightly by the very few who are privileged to do it.

I suspect you are right about that, but they are holding the cards really tight this time!

I agree that the impact is smaller than on smaller saws, and the bar that is on the saw surely is a factor.

However, lots of people have said that they prefere the handling of the 272xp over the handling of the 372xp, and I am sure that is caused mainly by the outboard vs. inboard clutch!

I'll be the first to admit I like my 272's handling over my 372. I like limbing and bucking big hardwood with my 272XP and it's nicely balanced inside centered b/c sure is nice to work with. The bulkier wide spread to the right 372 b/c makes me feel like I'm all thumbs ha ha.
But since I got my 562XP with outboard clutch I have since put my 272 into retirement, hoping one day to get it full race modded.

Interesting comment from someone I respect. Many of my customers have also left the 70cc world and are running 562's. This may or may not happen in a given area depending on the size of the timber being cut. But we are hardly a small log area and the trees are 2/3 hardwoods and the rest pine and soft maple. But either way, the 562 is really getting a following.
