Newbie 50 Questions
« on: January 26, 2014, 05:56:31 pm »
Came across a Husky 50 that seems pretty nice, but I have a couple of questions about it. Can anyone confirm what year
it is?  After reading some other threads, I think it is a 1986.  Some parts lists show 1986-06 or 1986-05, etc.  Could someone explain that to me?

Thanks.  Just joined this website.  Really like it.

I would say 1986, 38th week, 24th saw built that week!

Yes - the dates of the part lists are just that, and nothing more.

It is the serial number tag on the saw that can be used for dating the saw (when it can).

Runs great till it gets real warm, then it leans out and dies. 155psi in the cylinder. I'm thinking crank seals but when I spray starting fluid on the carb gasket it wants to die. Maybe that could be a simple fix??

Check the impulse tube grommet, the carb screws (don't strip them) and the intake boot, all the a fore mentioned parts go south with age in this family of saws. Replace the intake gasket but before using the new gasket, soak it in a little pre-mix to soften it to get a better seal.

It is actually very easy to strip out the self tapping screws that hold the carb to the heat shield, you might want to consider replacing that also. When the screws have stripped out the holes in the heat shield you get an air leak (lean) condition.
