OE 346 ported NE topend
« on: August 11, 2013, 03:48:28 pm »
Got a ported OE husky 346 50cc cyl in to see if I could find some free power. Has what appears to be a aftermarket 50cc 346 topend on it.

Just wasnt impressed with it in the ash wood test cuts. Not much torque and seemed to pull down and bog easily to me.  That was even with 325 narrow kerf chain and bar.

Found some and can push it in the cuts now.   ;)  If you want to guess where go ahead.

Just want to show owner difference in his 325 7 set up in the 13" ash cuts.

ported 50cc 346 7T 325 narrow kerf chain  17.00  his set up after my tune knocked some time off.

ported 50cc 346 same as above 7T 3/8 12.22   one I like on saws with any balls  ;)

stock 50cc 346 with stock muffler  7T 3/8  15.09 same 3/8 chain is faster then ported saw with 325 narrow kerf

Going to be switching this 346 over  to 3/8 after showing owner the numbers.  He will bring his H80 set up to test and see if he likes or not.

I need to check the psi on this saw and take a pic of the base. Now it is pretty darn thin at the mounting ears on the base. More so then those you saw on the 371.

This has to be about the worst muffler mod I have seen on a 346 muffler so far. JMO.  There is a little area that didnt get brazed and it is actually melting the brake handle ever so slowly.  Dont know if you can tell that in pics or not. No way I could have sent this back to someone like that IMO, just a shame whoever the porter was  ;).

 .....

H80 is the infamous Oregon Vanguard "low kickback" chain..... :o

It is a well known fact that .325 NK chain is a bad choise on the 346xp (and other strong 50cc saws).   ;)

I ran this 346XP OE some with the aftermarket 50cc P&C and ported. It did run more lively and faster than my absolutely stock 346XP NE when using the same bar and chain.

The husky site shows H80 to look like oregon LP or LPX  ???  not vanguard.  http://www.husqvarna.com/us/forest/accessories-old/product-accessories/chains/saw-chain-h80-3-8-1,3-mm/

Maybe in the past it was because I see H80 that looks like vanguard too.

The H30 narrow kerf on it now looks like LP    http://www.husqvarna.com/us/forest/accessories-old/product-accessories/chains/saw-chain-h30-pixel-325-1,3-mm/

I believe those pictures are somewhat "generic" illustrations - the description as a "low kickback" chain tells me it is Vanguard (72V) + I actually know that it is.  ;)

Just from the looks of the muffler, I expect that the porting will look the same.
I would started over again with a new NE cylinder.
