I never know how many turns out for I set them up initially at a couple turns - after startup - I adjust the saw to where it runs correctly. Then who knows how many turns out they are?

What model of saw is it? HVA suggests starting 1 turn open from lightly seated for both L & H as a starting point, then tune from there.

Yep.  1 and 1 should getcha close enough to start.  Then get the saw warmed up and tune it per my sig line.  Many Husky models used the Tillotson HS.

Yep, one and one for most models - but there are exceptions in the advice from Husky (nothing major though).

Several small saws use 1-1/2  to 2 turns on the needles.

Not knowing what saw the original poster has, it is best to open the needles greater than one turn.

If too far open, the saw will still start but be too rich. From that point the needles can be adjusted for the chainsaw to run properly.
