Chainsaw Repair

I now have 2 45cc ported 346. One with 357 carb and one with 346 carb.

 I just dont have any test wood to compare cut times with right now.  I really dont want to  have to do cut times etc to see the difference.

Has anyone tested and can show or share me the gains made with the 357 carbs?  For a work saw ported 45cc with 346 carb it sure seems to run just fine in the hardwood cuts. 

I know I had tested with another guy at the house with a 199 walbro  ( I wish I hadnt sold for $20 now) and 346 carb in the past. I just cant remember the gains we seen in cut times.

If just used as a work saw and not a gtg timed saw I just wonder if it is really worth it.

The one 346 I ran with a 357 carb was the strongest 50cc "woods" saw I've run.  That being said, I have no way to tel if it was the carb or the port work.

Only input I have on this subject, when I put a 044 carb on my heavily defiled ms310, the saw is a $%#@^ to tune.  On that saw, it makes to power band so hard to set up. 

I normally see around 10% gain on carb , it all depends on how good the 346 carb was cause on some carbs I get more than that in gain

10% = That sounds about right for the timed cuts in 8x8 etc.  Thanks for memory jog

 I bet Ed is talking about the Walbro. The newer Zama 357 replacement carbs  need some work to work right with ported saws, not just a bolt on. 

For a work saw this one will be left alone with 346 carb.  The firewood will never know it is 10% slower in the cut to it's twin brother with 357  walbro carb. 

Ported the same with pop ups. Tested at 3ci mini gtg in 12" hardwood.

 You also need to take into consideration you can port 10  saws all the same and a few of them will run better then the others. The one with the 357 carb has been one of those.

Round chisel work chain new untouched was used.
