Absolutely while you have it torn down put a new ring in it for preventive maintenance.  New ring wont hurt old cylinder.  You can get them from Husky dealer or can use a Caber aftermarket ring.  OEM is always better than aftermarket.  However Caber's are very good.  PN: 503-2890-19.  I get online OEM Husky from: http://www.jackssmallengines.com/help.cfm#/Husqvarna_Power_Equipment/272_XP_(1997-01)/Piston%2f%2fCylinder/08%7c%7e127%7c%7e341/081270004
Caber rings from: http://northwoodsaw.com/store/index.php.
While torn down I would replace cranks seals too.
Hope this helps.
