Altitude and Tuning a saw

What effect does Altitude have on a saw?
I am talking about my Husky 288.

I am at elevation 5500 and I usually cut at 6000 to 7000 feet.

Would you re-tune?

Richer or leaner the higher I go?

Lean as you go higher. You'll lose power as you go highrr

The higher the altitude the thinner the air is (less ambient air pressure, air is less dense). So if your saw was adjusted for low altitude and you run it at higher altitude without adjusting the carb it would run rich. 

500' isn't going to change much but 1500' would.

No matter what you do as you go higher in altitude you will loose power.

Yep.  It'll run richer (at the same settings) at the higher altitude.  Just be SURE to retune for the lower altitude when you return.  The saw will run leaner at the lower altitude due to the denser air (more oxygen).

There is one other thing that you lose as you go higher and that is compression.   That is one reason why you lose power.
