H82 Chain - Flat?
« on: January 23, 2014, 07:54:06 am »
So on the box it says there's no file size for the H82 it just says "Flat".

What does this mean and how do you sharpen it?

Thanks.

Chuck

I screwed up and had to fix my title. I meant the H82 chain... not the H80.

It says "Flat" for the file size... how so you sharpen these?

Thanks.

H82 is square ground chain, so you need special files (not round) if you want to keep the chain square. If you don't want to do that, you can use a 5.5 mm (7/32") round file.

Double bevel file is what you need.

Do you have one you prefer? I have a couple in my tool box... This is not a specialty item just for chains?

Thanks.

These are good ones.  You better deep down to the chain board and look at the square chain filing threads.

Here's the ones I've been buying lately. Cheaper than the others and the same blank from what I can tell with save edge.

At the Auto Tool World, the fine print says the double bevel files must be purchased in packs of 10.
