Starter Rope ?
« on: March 19, 2012, 03:54:14 pm »
Is there someplace that will tell me what size starter rope my saw takes? Specifically, is a size 5 from Bailey's, etc., the same size as the Husqvarna 505305125 ? A cross-reference guide/chart?

This would save me some $ since I could pick up the 10' hank about as cheap as the OEM 34" piece.

Thanks, great forum here. Another vortex for my $$,............... (woodturner here, I KNOW about vortexes......)

Rich

This is from Baileys guide.

Starter rope is available in the following sizes:

    #4 = (1/8" or 3.0mm)
    #4.5 = (9/64" or 3.5mm)
    #5 = (5/32" or 4.0mm)
    #5.5=  (11/64" or 4.5mm)
    #6 = ( 3/16" or 5.0mm)

FWIW you can buy decent starter rope at most good hardware stores by the foot .It's not that expensive and lasts just as long as stuff you buy at the saw shop . I personally buy 50 feet at a time . It gets all wadded up in the drawer and I cuss at it but I always have some on hand .Which of course I have to untangle .

Fuel line is just as bad about tying itself in knots .Just something you deal with  unless you are tidy of which trying by best I'm not .

Thats what I do too.

My old hardware store still has the wooden ladders that slides down the aisle (outer walls) for higher storage areas and wooden floor creaks when you are walking.
