Stripped spark plug. Hole.
« on: May 24, 2019, 06:41:53 pm »
I have bought a second hand 353 husky and it worked very well for more than a year.  Now it has blown the spark plug out of the hole and cannot tighten it back in.  It needs a heli coil or perhaps an insert.  I am not keen to buy the kit to do the job, $70  but the local chainsaw shops want to dismantle the chainsaw in order to fit the insert. This would cost too much.
What do you suggest?  I could buy a new head and fit that.  Or there are kits on line that include a 16 mm tap and insert for 14 mm plugs Can these be used without dismantling the motor.  How do you keep the metal filings from going intothe Cylinder. Any chance that a compound like muffler putty would hold the sparkplug
I am in the SW of western australia.

New OEM 346 p+c kit about $100 now days.

I might have a 353 cylinder that might need cleaned up inside bore. If doing on the cheap.

Just seen in Aus.  I would look at the save videos or used top myself.  Some folks have luck with aftermarket. But not a fan myself unless last choice.

Probably the best inserts are made by a company called Time-Serts .These use a wedging action and will not back out once installed .Used by Ford Motor in some cases for  repairs and by Roush racing who built aluminum block race engines .A little bit pricey though for a "one of " repair .
