TrioBrake 346
« on: December 26, 2014, 08:18:43 am »
I know folks out there are paying new prices to sellers for some used abused rebuilt NE 346 saws.  I was paying $385-$400 NEW before taxes at my local dealer PHO.  Dont get took. Retail was $469-$489 depending on bar and chain set up.

What I am wondering is how is this TrioBrake thing attached and how involved to remove the braking system?

There is still NE 346's out there on the dealers shelves. They just wont ship. Most I have located in past is on the west coast.

The OE 346 can still be bought NOS for $400.

NE 346 XP E-TECH TrioBrake can be bought and shipped at a limited of 5 per person.  ;)  If you really had to have a 346.

Me give me a 545 or 550xp over a 346 stock for stock.

I'd rather have an OE 346XP.  I usually take the less popular road however.....

I'm not sure how it works, but I don't believe that it is something that can be easily bypassed, if at all.  Stihl also has a similar second brake that I looked over.  From dealer's info there is no way to remove and run theirs.  Now that could just be a dealer talking, but he was losing a sale to me over it so if there was a way I'd like to think they would have done so.  Have an IPL or the Trio Brake saw to compare part #s to?

I have no use for the TrioBrake itself. Just something to be in the way, weigh more, and cause trouble. I appreciate the brakes that are on my saws with the flag protecting my left hand and the inertia function of the latter designed brakes to stop the chain. I realize how sudden and powerful a kickback can be. I do not normally set the brake by hand. I had a 7900 kick horizontally straight back on me in a pinch situation once and the jolt was very quick and powerful.

However, when working on the saws I always inspect the brake mechanism and check the functionality.

I'd just be trying to figure out how to get rid of the trioBrake mechanism?

I guess I'm just being cynical for I already have a 346XP NE as well as a 545 and a 550XP and none of them have a TrioBrake.

I do have a Poulan 3500 with no brake and generally never notice the absence when using the 3500.

As I recall it, there are quite a lot that is different on the TrioBrake saws - it isn't a streight removal. at least not if you wan't all traces of it gone. The IPLs will likely tell....

There actually are some users in Sweden that want it - they must have been badly indoctrinated/brainwashed! ::)
