257 & 44 parts interchangability
« on: April 03, 2014, 06:26:46 pm »
I have a 257 that needs a new tank (rear handle is broken).  I found a 44 parts say on c-list.  What if anything will interchange?  Tanks?  Clutch?  h-bars?

Look on the parts list and see if the part numbers are the same?

Sorry, Bud no parts interchange 44 to 257. Your best bet is the 254 the tanks are the same and the front/top handle but not the clutch. The same parts off a 261 clutch, top handle and tank off a 261/262 will all work on your 257.

I actually have a pretty slick 257, completely rebuilt from the crank bearings up. All OEM parts 262 clutch and muffler, if you might be interested. $275 PHO plus ship.

Thanks but I'll have to pass.  I have a nice Jonsered CS2159C that is my main saw in that size range.  Just figured that if I could pick up pieces cheap I'd clean up the 257.

Husky 51,55, 254 tank will fit 257 have to use 254, 257 AV mounts.  Should have said reuse your 257 mts if good.  51-55 is cheaper easier to find than specific 257 tank.  I have a bunch of 51-55 tanks if interested.  Got em from pretty to useable.
